This year Fort Greene Park will once again host the Great PUPkin Dog Costume Contest.  Now in its 20th year, dogs will come dressed up in their Halloween costumes, to parade around the neighborhood.

The venture – established by Kath Hansen (founder of Fort Green PUPS), has been very successful.  Hansen however, will be handing over the “reins” as she believes it is “time for some fresh blood.”

Hansen works in a non-profit organization in marketing and usually starts planning the event 9 months in advance.  For the next leader of the event her advice is to “start early [since] it takes a lot longer than you think.”

The event this year takes place on Saturday, October 27 and will be judged by Heart of Brooklyn Veterinary hospital owner Dr. Bill Farmer, Sesame Street Art Director Matt Duncan, Hudson Jane owners Jen and Megan LaPorta and pop-star and anti-bullying advocate, Meredith O’Connor.
